Re-invent Testing : Inspiring Innovation & Increasing Agility
Annual International Software Testing Conference (STC) has been a highly popular offering that brings together practitioners and thought leaders from the software industry, academia and government for sharing and exchange of experiences, ideas and learning.
In today’s knowledge age, the ability to transform information into innovative insights in response to market movements is core to sustainability. One of the toughest challenges seen is “How do you get your people to think creatively—to challenge the status quo — while still keeping your everyday operations running smoothly?” How do you respond quickly and nimbly to the changing environment without getting caught in knots?
STC 2014 explores ideas for new products, new ways of working, and for new strategies, still others for entirely new lines of business, resulting in inspired innovation and increased agility. As a platform, STC 2014 unravels examples, best practices from organizations and practitioners across the world.
The 14th Annual International Software Testing Conference (STC 2014) will take place on 4-5 December 2014 in Bangalore, India. Built on the theme of Re-invent Testing – Inspiring Innovation & Increasing Agility, this year the conference will be a display of ideas, experiments and experiences to explore challenges and suggest techniques and Best Practices to successfully create a culture of inspired innovation, and increased agility.
This year at STC 2014 we discuss ideas, experiments and experiences to explore challenges and suggest techniques and Best Practices to successfully create inspired innovation and increased agility. The discussions and presentations focus on how organization transforms itself on multiple aspects – People, Process, Tools & Technology. The single most important challenge to be addressed would be to change the mindset and perception that we need to move from Best to Next in an Agile way; and it is important we discuss, debate and agree on the requirement of the change. It is time that we moved to re-investing ourselves for greater benefits.

PERFORMANCE TESTING : SERVICE VIRTUALIZATION USING GREENHAT TESTER
Authors: Manali Chole, Test Analyst. Ketan Guruwale ,Technical Test Lead .Ronak Chauhan,Test Engineer .
Service virtualization is the technique to emulate the behavior & functionality of those components which are not available in the testing environment. For performance testing load simulation, the functionality of these missing components has to be invoked. There might be a chance that these components are very restricted or expensive to use for performance testing. Green Hat Tester facilitates the simulation of not only missing functionality but also the bulk load of web service requests/responses.

MODELING QA TRANSFORMATION WITH PRIME FRAMEWORK
Main Author: SUMIT KUMAR,SENIOR MANAGER.
QA Transformation is an emerging trend with organizations seeing the necessity of uplifting QA maturity significantly and rapidly to deliver the business and technology outcomes expected by end users.
QA Transformation can introduce complexity in IT organization. It needs an approach which aligns with organization’s existing set up and delivers desired outcome. It cannot be done effectively in absence of the framework for QA Transformation. PRIME framework described in the paper has been constructed for the purpose based on today’s QA Transformation requirements and experiences from implementation of QA Transformation for many organizations bringing in best practices for various experiences.
Adopting Agile Environment: Utilizing Docker Containers () for accelerating & optimizing Testing
Main Author: Khelender Kumar Sasan,Senior Solutions Architect.
Co Authors: Divya Saxena,Test Lead.
In past decade, hypervisor based virtualization technologies have helped in accelerating the pace of testing domain. Still, the current setups main bottleneck is consumption of bulk resources (hardware and software) for virtual machines simulation, where in-spite of having best server class hardware, overall utilization for end application is suboptimal & has a bearing on overall expenditure & test execution pace.
R&D of OS level virtualization has been happening along with hypervisor based virtualization, but hasn’t reached mainstream. Docker platform introduction has created a platform for optimizing and accelerating the pace in testing domain.
Docker framework builds upon strength of Linux Containers and Union File-System to provide a platform for further acceleration & optimization of testing and applying it for CI/CD targets.
This paper provides brief idea of Docker Containers, and tries to explore scenarios in testing domain that may be addressed by Docker framework
EFFECTIVE TEST APPROACH TO IMPROVE TEST EFFECTIVENESS FOR VALIDATION OF SOFTWARE IN UNKNOWN DOMAIN
Main Author: POORNIMA M,
Through this paper, I have the emphasized the effective test approach best suited for test case execution so as to improve the rate of fault detection. Paper summarizes risk-based approach to prioritize the test cases and perform optimal testing in unknown domain. Analysis of the data shows each approach to arrive at test priorities by applying various parameters and mathematical formulae. These are practices that can help the testing team meet the business need to deliver projects faster, while not compromising quality. Here I have discussed, how to prioritize tests (test scripts/test cases), complete the most important tests in given time by exploring the system so as to deliver a high quality product.
BUILDING INTELLIGENCE IN BI AND DWT ESTIMATES
Main Author: Amita Awasthi,Divisional Manager.
Have you ever thought about why projects are still failing in this age of cutting edge tools & technology, processes and skilled resources. Some of the reasons that we see is cost overrun, unrealistic schedule, major change in requirement, unavailability of SMEs and many more. But if we try to do a root cause analysis, many of these reasons point to the poor estimates or better call it guesstimates.
Especially when it comes to testing, and if the estimates are bundled with development sizing sometime no logical way of estimation done at all and a percentage of development effort is taken as test sizing. Also when it comes to optimize the cost, testing estimates are worst hit to cut down the cost.
This paper is an attempt to share the experience and best practices for BI and DWT project estimates, some of these best practices can be used across testing projects like always having a basis of estimation. Also the process oriented approach of estimation based on the type of projects as some projects will not need exhaustive testing and only regression testing is required, while for some project the scope of testing is vast.
Automation Lifecycle of Mobile Applications
Main Author: Abhisek Mishra,Member of technical Staff 2.
Co Authors : Mayank Gupta,Software Engineer 2.
Automated testing of mobile apps is becoming essential as more apps enter the app stores and new features are rolled out as updates to existing ones. System, regression and user interface testing need to be rolled into these automated tests to ensure
reliable, bug and crash-free execution.
In this paper, we will touch upon following phases of automating mobile applications and will see how it can be achieved for Android and iOS platforms with command line methods.
1. Integrating mobile test automation with the build process.
2. Installation of application on device.
3. Launching the application on device.
4. Monitoring the execution of test application on device.
5. Collecting test results from device.
6. Displaying and storing test results.
